NEW: Class Code

Training Wizard 2001 3.0.23
Training Wizard 2001 now allows for a class code value to be stored with each class that
you schedule.
The new class code field is handled differently based on a new system option. The new system
option has three settings:
-
Do not require class code. With this setting, the class code field does not require
a value. Any value can be placed into this field (or it may be left blank). Multiple
classes can have the same class code value.
-
Class codes are required. With this setting, the class code field requires a value and
that value must be unique. Blank class codes are not allowed. No two classes can have
the same class code.
-
Class codes are required and are automatically generated. With this setting, class codes
are automatically generated by Training Wizard and may not be edited or changed.
When the system option is set to automatically generate class codes, the class codes are generated
in a specific format. The format looks like: YY-SSSSS. The "YY" part is the two digit year of the
class start date. A class scheduled to begin on December 1, 1999 would be assigned a "YY" value of
"99". The "SSSSS" part is simply a sequence number. The sequence number is incremented as necessary
to insure that two classes do not have the same class code. For example, the first class scheduled
in 1999 would have a class code of "99-00001", the second class would have a class code of "99-00002",
and so forth.
When the system option is set to automatically generate class codes, there are two sets of additional
fields that allow for some form of customization to the generated class codes.:
-
The first set is within the system options. There are two fields (UserText1 and UserText2) that
represent a prefix and a suffix for a generated class code. Placing values into these fields will
cause the second set of additional fields to be initialized whenever a new course is created.
-
The second set of additional fields is located in the Course process. Each course can have its
own values for the UserText1 and UserText2 fields. When a new course is created, its UserText1
and UserText2 fields inherit the values that are defined in the system options. The values for
the course can be changed or left the same as the system options. After the course is saved, any
class that gets created will have a class code that uses the YY-SSSSS format described above, but
with the value of UserText1 placed in front of the YY-SSSSS and the value of UserText2 appended
to the end of the YY-SSSSS. For example, if a new class is scheduled, and its parent course has
a UserText1 of "GEOL-" and a UserText2 of "-INTRO", then its generated class code would be
"GEOL-99-00001-INTRO".
Finally, there are several other miscellaneous additions related to the class code field:
-
Class codes are available within the Class Filter of Training Wizard so that classes can be
retrieved by class code.
-
Self Service Training displays class code where appropriate.
-
Class imports will honor the system option to determine whether a class code is required or
not, and whether it should be generated or not.
-
Class imports will match existing classes by class code. This allows multiple classes of the
same course, which begin and end on the same dates, to be imported.
-
Enrollment imports will match existing classes by class code.
